No wrong in Sonia Gandhi attending government functions, says APCC chief
NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas pooh-poohed the Opposition charge, particularly by the TDP, on the capacity of Congress president Sonia Gandhi frequently visiting Andhra Pradesh and addressing government functions.
“She is the chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and chief of the Congress, which runs the governments at the Centre and the State. Besides, she is a Lok Sabha member. She has every right to participate in any function not only in the country but even abroad,” Mr. Srinivas told mediapersons here on Friday.
The APCC president, who is here to attend the CWC meeting, pointed out that she was the guest of the State and the State government was represented on the dais by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and other Ministers. “So what is wrong in her attending government functions,” he asked.
He also justified the diversion of APSRTC buses for the meetings attended by Ms. Gandhi and said buses were provided to any political party or organisation on hire. Even when actor-politician Chiranjeevi launched his Praja Rajyam party in Tirupati, RTC buses were allowed to be hired by his fans, he said.
On Telengana issue, he said the party high command is seized of the issue and would take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time.
