Prime Minister Nehru was accorded a warm reception when he arrived in Madras on January 31 to participate in the Madras University centenary celebrations. The special Ilyushin plane by which he travelled landed at 12-35 p.m. after a five-hour flight from New Delhi. As Mr. Nehru, clad in spotless khadi and carrying his familiar baton, stepped out of the plane, with a beaming smile, there was a thunderous ovation, which he acknowledged with folded hands. Mr. A.J. John, Governor, Mrs. John, Mr. B. Ramakrishna Rao, Governor of Kerala, Mr. K. Kamaraj, Chief Minister, and Mr. T.T. Krishnamachari, Union Finance Minister, received the Prime Minister and they exchanged greetings.
