JUST MUSIC June Rock Out insists on being free of drugs, alcohol and sexual suggestiveness

The Unwind Centre's annual June Rock Out is almost upon us. Sponsored by Spykar, this year's pick of performing bands features a wide range of musical styles from funk rock to alternative to extreme metal.

Kicking off on June 10, nine bands from across India will perform over three Saturdays at the Unwind Centre in Wilson Garden. Old Jungle Saying, a funk rock band from Bangalore, kick-starts the proceedings on June 10 along with a white metal band from Chennai called Blood Covenant and alternative band After Taste from Mumbai.

The following Saturday features Bangalore rockers Phenom, Delhi folk/jazz rock band Level 9 and Hyderabadi death metal band Sledge. The festival concludes on June 24 with progressive rock band Parousia, Planatella, a blues rock band from Chennai and IIIrd Sovereign, an extreme metal band from Mizoram.

A unique facet of June Rock Out is its insistence on being free of drugs, alcohol and sexual suggestiveness. Moreover, this year, the concert comes with the theme "Educate to Empower" (E2E). As part of the E2E project, Acts of Mercy, an NGO associated with the Unwind Center, has adopted more than 10 villages in the East Coast Region of Chennai with the objective of helping aspiring students to take up college and vocational courses. Spykar Jeans JRO 2006 will aim to raise funds and awareness towards this project.
