State drama awards announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 26. Sreerangakala's "Napoleon" has been selected for the best drama award for 2003 of the State Government.

Promod Payyannur who directed the KPAC's "Dravidavrittham" has been adjudged as the best director.

Promod Chala has been declared as the best actor for his role in "Aksharasadas" and Sethulekshmi as the best actress for her work in "Dravidavrittham".

The Vadakara Varada's "Aksharasadas" and Ernakulam Kalachethana's "Snehagayakan" are the second best plays, Pradeep Malavika (Alkoottathil Thaniye) as the second best actor and Sreedevi (Anubhavangale Nandi) as the second best actress.

Pradeep Kumar Kavunthara has bagged the award for the best playwright for "Utharavadapetta Uthaman".


The other winners are V.T.Murali - male singer; Daleema - female singer, Ramesh Kavil - lyricist, M.K.Arjunan - best background score, Artist Sujathan - set, Shibu S. Kottaram - lighting, A. Narayanan - costumes and Bharat Gopi - book on drama (Nataka Niyogam).

P.R. Chandran has been selected for the award for the person who has made significant contributions for the stage. Meenambalam Santhosh, director of "Napoleon" and "Dravidavrittham" have been selected for the special prizes of the jury, the latter for its novel presentation.

It was a jury chaired by Vayala Vasudevan Pillai who selected the award winners this time. The awards were announced by the chairman of Sangeeta Nataka Akademi, Kavalam Narayana Panicker.
