MANGALORE, FEB. 9. Sangeetha Bharathi, Mangalore, is organising a music festival called Swar Utsav at the Town Hall for four days from Thursday. The event will feature the santoor maestro, Shivakumar Sharma, the vocalists, Venkatesh Kumar, Jayateerth Mevundi, and Bharati Vaishampayan, and the tabla artiste, Suresh Talwalkar, according to the president of the organisation, Rafique Khan.
Mr. Khan told presspersons here on Monday that the organisation had been conducting Hindustani classical vocal and instrumental music programmes in and around the city for the past six years.
Pandit Shivakumar Sharma would perform on Thursday. He would be accompanied on tabla by the artiste of international repute, Vijay Ghate, from Mumbai.
Mr. Khan said it was after a long time that Pandit Shivakumar Sharma was presenting a full concert in Mangalore. Venkatesh Kumar from Dharwad would present a vocal concert, Swaradhara, on Friday. He would be accompanied on harmonium by Narendra Nayak and on tabla by Shashikanth Kulkarni. Jayateerth Mevundi from Goa would present a vocal concert, Swaranjali, on Saturday. He would be accompanied on harmonium by Sudhir Nayak of Mumbai and on tabla by Pandit Ravindra Yavagal from Bangalore.
The first part of Laya Yaatra and Swara Madhurya would feature Pandit Suresh Talwalkar giving a tabla solo performance for an hour.
In the second part, Ms. Vaishampayan would present a vocal concert.
She would be accompanied on the harmonium by Tulsidas Borkar from Mumbai and on table by Kedar Vaishampayan from Kolhapur.
While the programme would start at 6 p.m. on the first three days, it would start at 5.30 p.m. on the final day, he said.
