As the day to celebrate the special relationship comes closer, everyone is humming the tune of ‘friendship’. The bonding and the camaraderie have spread off to every nook and cranny of the place.
An opportunity to revive the memorable old happenings and show your friends how much you care for them is at hand, precisely next Sunday. Yes...it’s Friendship Day!
Over the years, the concept of Friendship Day (the first Sunday of the month of August) has caught on.
Here’s the day when you can call on your friends, celebrate the cherished bond and drive down the memory lane to recall all the special moments shared with your dear friends. Ask any youngster his or her plans and you can see the gleam in the eyes.
People who have not looked up to their friends can take this as an occasion to renew old links and make up for any neglect, however unintentional. Many admit that it’s not always possible to meet old friends regularly because of the work pressures and neck-break pace of life.
That’s when days like these do magic to reunite two souls seemingly lost in the nitty-gritty of life.
Gifts and greetings
Youngsters are flocking around gift shops to send a whacky message or to pick up a surprise gift for their friends. Popular gift shops like Archies Gallery and Darling’s Paradise have stocked up a mind-boggling range of gift articles and friendship bands.
Darling’s Paradise had added more than 600 varieties of friendship bands. Leather bands, flashy beads and trendy wrist-wraps are included in the wide collection.
The range of gifts includes 20 varieties of friendship day chocolates, cute soft toys, friendship chains and finger rings.
Pages Book Centre is offering lot of freebies on Friendship Day. Special friendship bands and candies will be given to all customers from Friday onwards.
A special discount is offered on Friendship Day greetings and gifts. Based on the purchase values from Rs.50 to Rs.1,000, free gifts will be offered during the three days.
The store has also added a collection of books on friendship for the occasion.
The Internet has revolutionised the way the youngsters express their friendship. E-mail chat and messaging have replaced the exchange of wristbands and cards by a sizable section of the youth. Long-distance relationships and net friends are now a common feature in the lives of the net savvy. Says Ankita Rao, a student, “I’ve friends in the US, Australia and France.
This friendship day I am giving them a surprise by sending them e-gifts. We have promised to meet online and chat for an hour to celebrate the occasion.”
While chats and community groups are buzzing with ‘friendship’ thoughts, the busy ones plan to raise a toast to friendship by keying in a special memoir on friendship for their friends in the blogosphere.
Blogs are a great way to recount the journey of friendship and also to let all your friends know how much they mean to you.
“We don’t have the time to spend so much time on the net to chat or email.
So for all my friends, I am going to write a special post on friendship on my blog,” avers Ishan Deb, an IT professional.
