Don McLean

Vincent

An early seventies’ song, inspired by the life of Vincent Van Gogh, this track is way ahead of American Pie — which Mclean is most associated with, courtesy Madonna’s soulless version. Though I have always loved the song for its beautiful imagery, the song sprung to life after reading Lust for Life by Irving Stone. McLean’s words set to a very simple tune, take you on a journey through Van Gogh’s paintings. The words are intriguing and the music allows you to reflect upon the images. Though several covers have been done, it takes a soulful voice like McLean to give it that complete note. In an attempt to understand what Van Gogh went through, it seems to reflect McLean’s own soul.
