Tales of long ago

sea saga Catch the classic tale on The History Channel

A two-hour film adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s high seas tale, “Ebb tide” will be aired tonight on Monday Night Classics on The History Channel at 9 p.m. “Ebb Tide” is about three luckless adventurers who agree to sail a ship from Tahiti to Australia loaded with a cargo of vintage champagne.

Out at sea, their nightmare begins when they discover the bottles are full of sea water and they have been duped into sailing a ship meant to sink.

It was a decade of excess - fuelled by blazing cars, supersonic jetliners and gadgets fit for the decade. In the 1970s consumer electronics got huge, and the size of calculators got small. Children learned to Speak & Spell, and the video game PONG became a sensation.

Watch History channel interview the pioneers behind the world’s first microprocessor and have Texas Instruments explain how the technology behind the Speak & Spell ended up in our cell phones and automobiles on Tuesday at 9 p.m.
