The weather is hot but who's complaining? Said this hip youngster, "I will still go out and make the best of it. It's time to explore sun wear."

Sameer Tuyyath of Lawrence and Mayo, pulls out a huge range of sunglasses at the ongoing sunglass mela in the store, where a variety of sunglasses in different colours, styles and brands are available. "The concept of buying sunglasses has not really caught on in India, especially Kerala. They are viewed more as a luxury product than a necessity. It appears that still most people view sun glasses as only a product of style ." With high quality lenses that offer UV protection, the eye is less prone to damage from exposure to sunlight," says Mr. Tuyyath, the sales manager. Besides, he explains that it is that one accessory that is stylish and immediately adds glitz to your overall appearance. Glasses for grandparents andkids are available, both branded and indigenously made sun wear, concentrating less on regular glasses. "We ensure prices are discounted, where they begin at Rs.500 and go up to Rs.5,000." What is more, an array of gifts are offered, depending on the value of the purchase.

Bob of `Lens and Frames' says that as styles change with the season, they find tourists picking up glasses more than locals. This, he says, is primarily due to the lucrative prices , "sometimes even cheaper than what they are offered abroad as a result of marketing strategies."

Johnny Paul of Kurian Opticals feels it is a trend that calls for constant change. With the movies influencing style, they are often requested to display the latest models of sun wear. "Hence styles of very expensive brands are available at affordable prices."

Says a customer who purchased a pair of Oakley's, " It's great to have a variety of sun wear to choose from as earlier, these were available only in metros."
