Golden meet
Timeless aura The yellow metal rules
New metals such as platinum with its muted finish may be sweeping the jewellery market, but the rush on Akshaya Tritiya and the crowds at jewellery fairs indicate that gold is still the queen of metals.
From May 20 to 22 at the Trade Fair Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai will play host to the Gold Jewellery India International Exhibition, a show on everything gold and gold jewellery in India.
A business-to-business trade fair in jewellery, machinery and allied products, it will be a significant event for those involved in the industry. Over 100 participants from all over the country and abroad will showcase their creations. The fair will also provide opportunities to artisans and designers to display the latest trends and styles. There will also be seminars and design forums, which will focus on the latest developments in the trade.
Organised by the World Gold Council and the Madras Jewellers and Diamond Merchants' Association, the exhibition is an effort to tap South India's Rs. 30,000-crore gold market.
