GLITTERING: A model showing what crystal embellishments are all about
If you think crystal, beads and buttons are only accessories, then you are wrong. Swarovski, the renowned producer of cut crystal, recently unveiled its fashion portfolio, where leading fashion designers like JJ Valaya, Manish Arora, Malini Ramini, Rina Dhaka and Satya Paul presented a sneak preview of their crystal interpretations for the season.
The emphasis of the show was on two new colours - silk and golden shadow, which are based on the company's spring summer trend report.
"The colour silk is pure, natural and sensuous, while the crystal golden shadow reflects the glitter of the evening dresses. Both the colours complement and combine beautifully with other colours such as crystal, shadow crystal and topaz. And both are available in different products such as chatons, cupchains and crystal mesh," says Sanjay Sharma, Country Manager of Swarovski.
According to Swarovski, the most visible trend for the coming season is the dazzle of bright accessories. The designs at the show illustrated how crystal adds brilliance in fashion."Accessories are fashion's new best friend today. Crystal has been taking fashion by storm, from shoes through bags glittering in crystal."
"The display of crystal interpretations by these designers for the forthcoming season drums in the celebration of creativity and innovation, using the beauty and energy of crystal everywhere in fashion," adds Sanjay.
According to Valaya, "This season we have gone beyond the use of Swarovski on clothes alone, but have used them interestingly on accessories such as bags and shoes. The sophistication of shimmer combined with mediums such as leather, etc., is a fantastic expression of contemporary fashion."
Agrees fellow designer, Rina Dhaka, "The beauty of crystal is in its versatility which is not only inspiring for use in garments but more so in accessories today. This season, fashion is having a love affair with all things luminous and sparkly."
Rina displayed crystals twisted into a rope-like shap, to be placed around the neck, waist, trouser hems and waistbands.
Other interpretations at the show included Malini Ramani's `carnival - girl' feminine dresses, and wardrobes done by Shantanu Goenka with lots of pearls, pendants and filigree apart from a variety of crystals.
