Spring into summer

Haute cool Hyderabad offers super trendy wardrobe options for the season, writes MINI ANTHIKAD-CHHIBBER

While we remember all the horrid things about summer, we never think of all the fun things we can do like eat loads of ice cream, check out the avakkai that mom is making and freedom from the tyranny of exams and classes - it is holiday time dude! The absolute best thing about summer is you can shop for a whole new wardrobe and the city offers divine options.

Sarita of Urvi Weaves and Crafts (Model House) says, "We have materials in Mul with Kalamkari, gold and silver prints." The store has interesting combinations like Lucknowi chikan work on Mangalagiri and the absolutely rocking block prints on white Lucknowi chikan material. There is also a whole stack of block prints from Jaipur and with the in-house tailor at Urvi, you could get the outfit of your choice and fit in two days, Sarita promises. Vinita of Marichika (Rd 36, Banjara Hills), where a White Week was held recently says, "A structured linen jacket till the knee looks very smart and can be worn with strappy little nothings. We also stock textured muls kurtis that you can mix and match. Then are happy chiffons with cotton lining that ensures that the body can breathe."

It is summer and Lucknowi rules but gone are the humungous tents and in their place come capris (is that cool or what?). "The white on white is very soothing." The georgette shirts, summer saris, smudged whites and appliqués are all set to take your mind of the sweltering heat! Vinita says, "A white shirt can be dressed up with the right jewellery." Vinita says their range of earrings with the antique look is just the ticket.

For your summer holiday look, please check out Levitate (55535842). The place has the most darling hemp (yes, yes) hats. There are also the old faithfuls, the wrap around skirts - full length and mid length ones. There are crushed cotton skirts and skirts with khatiawadi work for the nomadic look. Uppers come is all shapes and sizes from kurtas with Om prints, sleeveless pin-tuck tops and Tees with batik prints to the steady, easy, cool, relax white cotton kurtas.

Low rise cotton pyjamas in vibrant colours are a comfortable option and then you have the matted chappals done up in sequins - so what if there is no beach in the city, go to Levitate and you would surely hear the ocean roar! Superstores have their summer collections. Manish Kelshikar, Head of Design Shoppers Stop, talking of the summer range, Café, says, "the theme is outdoorsy and fun. The colours are bright while the fabrics are flowing and sheer with a lot of cotton and linen. The silhouettes are straight but not clinging. The prints are retro and flowers are big. The look is flirtatious, with frills and ruffles. Skirts, tops, shirts, capris are all set to burn up the streets."

In the final count, do not let the heat defeat you - instead take the fight to the opposition with a little help from the style gurus!
