Gear up for summer!--
The sizzling days have arrived. As the sun beats down mercilessly, the heat is becoming oppressive by the day.
It is then the time for choosing a set of appropriate summer wears to beat the heat and also to look your coolest. Stores in the city are all geared up for the long, hot season ahead.
Breezy cottons are the perfect fabric for the season. To ensure that you stayed cool and fresh all day through, you would do well to stack your wardrobe with natural fabrics or fabrics that allow your skin to breathe.
Khadi wonder
More than six decades ago, a fragile, bare-chested dhoti clad man used cloth as a powerful tool of protest, thus bringing about a revolution in the country. He was called 'Mahatma' by all, but he simply signed M.K. Gandhi.
Khadi, the cloth he propagated, completely changed India's destiny, and the handspun cotton that continues to make a fashion statement. The fabric is in vogue for its comfort and ethnic look. Now a part of every wardrobe, fashion designers use Khadi, both in their ready-to-wear as well as couture collections.
The all-time fabric 'Khadi' has taken on different dimensions this summer. The cool and modest fabric has transformed into a popular fashion statement. The light pastel shades provide the perfect comfort.
Check out the rich saffron and green shades of dress material in Khadi Bhandar. Priced at Rs.70 per metre, they can be stitched into a designer wear kurta with slight touch of sequins at the sleeves or decorative buttons.
Kurtas in stylish cuts paired with khadi trousers lend an Indian, yet modern, look. Try a trouser tapered at the ankles with big wooden buttons running along the Khadi top, it will give a rich ethnic look.
Eastern heritage meets western fashion with the short kurtas with intricate and opulent embroideries, sequins work teamed with slim or bootleg pants. College days are never better than with simple kurtas in bright summer colours like lime, turquoise, sun yellow, tangy orange, which can be worn with funky jeans or capris. The necks are simple and non fussy. You can even team them up with crushed dupattas or scarves.
Designer touch
Going on a shopping binge could also be a great way to drive away your blues. People often tend to make wrong choices in their haste to stuff their bags with the goodies available at rebate price. So don't be a miser, but at the same time be discerning in your spending. A little splurge now and then is cool.
At 'Prapancha' boutique, you can get the latest summer collections of designer branded wear for a chic look.
Skirts are completely in vogue this season. From ankle-length peasant skirts to the micro-minis, skirts of any length are the in-thing this summer. Ranging from Rs.450 to Rs.795, the floral designs and bright hues on the skirts can give you the perfect fashionable look.
There are also a range of cotton trousers and crushed cotton shirts and kurtas available here.
T-shirts
It's a swirl of colours, weaves and textures at the different stores in the city. If you want to sport the cool but dignified look, try out the branded range of clothes. Cotton T-shirts in lighter shades are a big hit. Wills showroom, Buddy Davis and Adidas have brought out a wide array of summer wear for both men and women.
Stoles
Shawls and stoles are still popular with everyone. Just wrap a smart scarf or a stole round your neck. They cover your head and neck almost completely. This means that your hair is protected from all that grime and dust, and they reduce pollution. And most importantly, they have this extremely chic appearance! These range from Rs.50 at the roadside shops to Rs.180 available at the bigger stores.
Bright hues
Other stores in the city are out with their summer collection as well. And there are discounts galore everywhere! The hot colours for summer are an eclectic mix of bright and pastel shades. Ethnic salwar kurta sets and sarees, such as Mangalgiris and Venkatgiris, come in earthy and bright colours such as red, blue, orange and rust.
White, of course, remains the all-time favourite colour to beat the heat. Kota sarees and salwar kurtas are in this summer, as the fabric is light and lets the skin breathe.
Pastel colours definitely rule the fashion charts where the not-so-ethnic wardrobe is concerned.
