Nostalgia

A. T. Ummer &

M. K. Arjunan

HMV, Rs. 80.00

THERE ARE so many things that are common to both the late A. T. Ummer and M. K. Arjunan. They are, despite their immense talent, always been soft-spoken, pleasing, content to dissolve in a crowd, never pushy, letting their songs do all the talking for them. And if there is one element that binds their music together it is melody, which is the essence of their songs. Both of them have composed music for more than hundreds of films, melodies that have stood the test of time.

In these two pack albums are some of the finest selections of Malayalam film songs created by these veteran composers. The packs have 28 songs each.

Ummer who made his debut in the film `Thalirukkal' went on to compose music for some everlasting melodies like `Vrichika raathrithan... ,' `Chembakapoonkavanathile... ' (Aabhijathyam), `Maanrivillu panthalitta... ' (Theerthayatra), `Swayamvarathinu... ' (Ulsavam), `Thushara bindukkale... ' (Aalinganam), `Neela jalasyathil... ' (Angeekaram), `Devi nichiriyil... ' (Rajaparampara), `Priyamulavale... ' (Thekkankaatu), `Oru nimisham tharu... ' (Sindhooram) and many other lovely songs. Most of these find a place in this collection.

The Arjunan collection is a much more selective one. None of his popular hits have been missed. Right from his first film `Karutha Pournami' there are songs that generations have held close to their heart. Included here are gems like `Paadatha veenayum... ' `Muthilum muthaya... ' (Rest House), `Muthukilungi... ' (Anjathavasam), `Neela nishidini... ' (CID Nazir), `Chandrakala manathu... ' (Picnic), `Paalaruvikarayil... ' (Padmavyuham), `Thiruvona pularithan... ' (Thiruvonam), `Ravivarma chitrathin... ' (Raju Rahim) and `Malli sayaka... ' (Soorya Vamsham).

Add these albums to your collection they are worth it.

K. P.
