In cheerful colours

Most of the acrylic works of Eknath C. Giram revolve around women

THE BRIGHT hues in the paintings of Eknath C. Giram spread cheer at the Vinyasa Art Gallery. Most of the acrylic works are of women among flowers and animals in a setting suggestive of open air. The figures are delineated with fine flowing, delicate lines; the face, limbs and neck are elongated, while the bent neck, hands in varied gestures and the body bent backward or forward create a sense of constant movement. The forehead is highly exaggerated, the hairline going almost to the back of the head.

Realistic

There is a strong influence of Prabha in the figuration and that of Manjit Bawa in the use of colours and depiction of cows. While the flowers, peacock feathers and cows are realistically depicted, all the stylised human faces are exactly the same, most of which are in profile, except for the angle at which the head is held.

There is no difference even between the male and the female faces. The figures appear in simple garments; no other ornamentation is visible. Flat areas of colour occupy the canvas, even the moulding of the body achieved only by lines.

Giram, an alumnus of the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune, has trained in drawing, painting and art education. The exhibition of his paintings is on till January 20, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Vinyasa, The Music Academy premises, TTK Road.
