Actor Rajesh says he has learnt from his failures

HE BELONGS to our infamous film industry yet defiantly breaks away from it. From its ground rules, the ruthless rat race and the baffling number game. Neither does he comply with any of the star-made, industry-made genres despite having a director as his father. What seemed a perfect launch under Suresh Productions and directed by his father E.V.V. Satyanarayana didn't take off and so it was with the next three films Sambhu, Vadanthe Adho Typu and Sontham. He is not a histrionics person and has a cool and relaxed manner about him. For him to parrot on with small talk is a once-in-a-blue-moon occurrence. On the second day of his release Leela Maha Centre, Rajesh gets cornered for an interview.

Was he a reluctant entrant into tinsel world? "Not at all, right from the beginning I was attracted to all that fame notwithstanding my film background. But I was quite sure I needed some academics as a backing. I had to wait till I completed my studies and here I am waiting for that big elusive break." About his successive flops he says, "Getting into the industry was very easy for me because of my father but things didn't happen according to our expectations. The stories we chose were not up to the mark. My father feels bad that I'm not happening but I'm very confident that I'll do it one day. My flops have taught me many lessons and we'll be careful this time. One should remember that success and failure are transient. My family was of great help to me at that time. They never let me down and kept me in good spirit. My effort is finally bearing fruit. There is good response to my new film and I'm really happy."

Today, as he stands on the threshold of his second career-coming he looks back and analyses his rocking launch as a film star and tells what exactly went wrong. "The shooting schedule of Hi and Sontham went almost on parallel lines and the release time between both the films was only three months. Between Sambhu and my second film too, there was this same problem of timing. When I heard these stories, they sounded quite good but when they went on floor it didn't work out the way we thought it would. Leela Mahal has a different background and all those who saw the film spoke positively about it." His next venture, Evadi Gola Vadidhe, promises to be a complete laugh riot, a comedy film with 26 comedians. The film, Rajesh says, has been directed by his father E.V.V. Satyanarayana and was shot entirely in Bangkok. "I can tell for sure that it will be a big hit." He adds that his father is his support system and that he is completely involved with every aspect of filmmaking revolving around him and his brother Naresh. "We all sit together and discuss every aspect. My father is very open with us as far as criticism is concerned. People do ask me about sibling rivalry sometimes and I find it strange. I'm very happy for him and I would always wish the best for him. I'm also glad that at least one member from the family has made it big. A Tamil-Telugu bilingual film is on the anvil and I'm looking forward to doing it." He dispenses rumours that he has been married and prefers not to talk about his personal life. "I'm a very private person and I prefer being this way."
