Recreating the Mughal era

ANCIENT DESIGNS of jewellery of the Mughal tradition, which are long forgotten by the rest of the world, has been recreated by jeweller Roopa Vohra.

Roopa calls herself a revivalist and couture designer, and her detailed and intricately-worked pieces draw on the rich heritage of traditional Mughal work. In her collection, called Persia, she uses colourful stones to recreate the charm of the era.

She has used techniques such as naqaashi and thewa (which are forms of etching and of fusing glass with gold) in her earlier collections.

Roopa's collection is on display the Taj West End between December 11 and 13.
