The USP of the store is shoes, bags, and guess what, lingerie, all Tanya's pet passions. — Photo: Sampath Kumar G.

IF BLUE Bean has a bouncy, girly ring to it, it's because the store is dedicated to all those little things so dear to a girl's heart. Located in the heart of Indiranagar, Blue Bean, which opened earlier this year, caters to a very young and hip clientele.

For owner Tanya Elred Bhat, the decision to start the store came out of the blue, when once, she spent a whole day looking for a pair of shoes in vain. She also happens to love the colour blue and hence the name.

An advertising professional, she runs the chic store with her aunt, and ensures that all her clients enjoy personalised attention and advice.

Shoes and bags

The USP of the store is shoes, bags and, guess what, lingerie! Tanya, to whom these mean a lot, says she is catering to a like-minded clientele, who want to shop in privacy, without the "prying eyes of salespeople, who can be very pushy." The range of lingerie (priced between Rs. 340 and Rs. 750) includes inner wear and sleepwear, either sourced from known brands or designed by Tanya and manufactured for Blue Bean.

From pyjama suits to cover robes, they come in pastels, plains and printed varieties. The sleepwear has a range of styles — the negligee come with options in sleeve lengths and body lengths, as do the robes. Says Tanya: "We have a range for daily use, and special occasions too. Our sizes start at 30 and go up to 56. So anyone can walk in here, and will definitely find a size that fits them."

Tanya, who claims to have some male customers picking up stuff for their fiancées, ensures that she has some nifty greeting cards and silver baubles and bracelets that make interesting add-ons to a gift of the lingerie.

Blue bean also has an assortment of bags for women, to suit both casual and evening wear. While some bags are in jute and are seen elsewhere too, another range in synthetic leather, which Tanya says is "more economical, versatile and animal friendly", and look rather young in funky colours of sky blue, baby pink and so on. There are also the regular sequinned party bags.

Footwear

Footwear at Blue Bean varies over casual, formal and party wear. "The pointed or square fronted shoes are in, and so are the ankle straps," says Tanya, as she points out a collection that doubles as office wear as well. Fabric on the shoes is in vogue, with an entire collection of casual shoes/ slip-ons having canvas on them and some others with silk in different colours.

Blue Bean is open between 11 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. The store can be contacted at 51152567.
