Perfect cover drive

THERE IS definitely more to Tom Alter than speaking Hindi in an atrocious accent in film after film as the evil imperialist villain - incidentally he speaks perfect Hindi. Well known for his work in theatre - Hyderabad was lucky to see him in Maulana and the hilarious Now She Says she is God! - Alter is also very knowledgeable about the gentleman's game, cricket. He has shared his knowledge and love of the game as columnist and has hosted a cricket show on telly. Alter finds loads of similarities between cricket and showbiz.

Single in a group: Both are individual pursuits within a team concept

Matter of focus: In acting and cricket, the importance of complete concentration cannot be ignored.

Sole content: Success and failure are totally dependent on you.

Quite contrary: While success and failure is totally dependant on individual performances, there is every chance that you could give a performance of a lifetime and the film flops or you could make a century or take a hat trick and still end up on the losing side.

Be prepared: While both the fields require basic skill and aptitude, a great deal of preparation is a must.

Solitary reaper: It is lonely at the top and the bottom. People see the glamour, the fame and all the cheering fans but fail to see how difficult it is to reach there and also how alone one is.
