Day or night, Q'BA is right

The recently opened Q'BA restaurant at New Delhi's Connaught Place is ideally suited for power luncheons or catching up with friends. And it has a wonderful menu too, says URMILA RAO.


DEEP BROWNS, intense purple and black pervade the ambience at the recently opened restaurant and lounge bar in New Delhi's Connaught Place. The earthen hue is dominant during the day and reflects the mood, Q'BA by the day'. It connotes a no-frill atmosphere and is ideally suited for power luncheons or catching up with friends.

From evenings on, experience a transmogrified Q'BA by night' with glittering fibre optic lights illuminating the space and enhancing the party mood with live music to rock you. And what is common between both the moods? Gizzard-friendly recipes.

If you are a lounge lizard or want to be one, Q'BA is the right place for you. Sprawled across 14000 sq. ft, with comfy hunker sofas, Q'BA has three floors which can house up to 600 people at a time. A private room too is available for corporate meetings and family gatherings. Located at the centre of the ground floor is the island bar.

Atul Kapoor, one of the partners, who has made a fresh venture in the hotel business speaks about it passionately, "Q'BA will be an overall experience for diners, in terms of food, music, dιcor and location".

And what's special about the menu? The lounge menu offers, besides the usual tikkas and kababs, dishes like the falafel (a spicy coriander and roast bell pepper sauce), mushroom and cheese samboussik, quesadilla. One must-try dish is spinach croquettes (mozzarella wrapped in spinach and sesame seeds) which tastes like manna.

Canadian chef, Felix Turianskyg, blends Italian and Continental ingredients palatably to suit the local taste buds. How is the magical fusion created? "While the cooking technique and presentation is Continental, the flavour is more Indian", he says.

Vegetarians can savour the Italian dish, `Fusilli pasta with 3 cheeses'. It is made of Fontana, an Italian cheese which melts in the mouth and is added for texture, Parmesan, which gives flavour and emmenthal, and French cheese adds volume to the course. Also try sampling Parmesan Risotto (grilled babycorn, broccoli, tandoori mushrooms and Parmesan).

If you are lunching, dare to try `texmex'(texas/mexican) dish-red bean and bell pepper Enchilada (red beans with fresh tomatoes, ranchero sauce and melted cheese) . The Q'BA also promises to offer the finest selection of wines, whiskies, beer, flavoured martinis and cocktails in the coming weeks. An average lunch for two would cost Rs.500 plus taxes and dinner 1100 plus taxes.
