Want a hot dog?

DOES POP Tate's Shoppe ring a bell? Remember Jughead Jones's dog, Hot Dog? Now, You too can pick up your `dog', eat with gusto and lick your fingers at New Delhi's American Diner's Hot Dog Festival. Imagine hot dog washed down with a Jack Daniel's cocktail or two. It's as American as it can be. You bet!

Traditionally, mustard, ketchup and chilli have always been the favourite `dog' toppings in order of popularity. In addition to these, hot dog lovers can try out a whole host of variations at the festival - coleslaw and gherkins, cucumber, peppers, green onion, salsa and even mango relishes.Beginning last month, this is the second summer running for the Diner's Hot Dog Festival, but why particularly in July? Because July happens to be the National Hot Dog Month in the US. Closer home, at the Diner, guests can eat their hearts out from an exhaustive range of both traditional and new-age hot dogs, from all parts of the Americas. Pick up a Classic Dog, topped with mustard and served with slices of tomato, onion and gherkin.

Variety on offer

Or, if you would like to go in for a change, try the Baltimore Frizzled with a rye bun, the Kansas City with oat bun and sauerkraut, the Chicago, the Swanky Frank, the Southern Slaw, the Tex Mex with salsa and jalapenos or the BBQ hot dog with bacon and cheese.

Better still, ask for the chef's recommendation, the Crunchy Garden Style Dog or the Cheesy Dog in Blanket! An iced tea or a smoothie would make it a meal or one can even check out the Jack-based lemonade. There is only one hard and fast rule to follow - be casual, put your elbows on the table, drink as much as you can and enjoy as many hot dogs as your stomach can handle. The hot dog Festival is on till August end.
