Coffee and more

Cocoa Tree, the new coffee shop at Hotel Avenue Regent, is a cool hangout for all.

A BRAND new place is brewing coffee on M.G. Road and that is Avenue Regent's Cocoa Tree. With Coffee Day's and Barista's aromas thinking our small city is not hip and happening, other coffee places are coming up slowly and surely and they are definitely happening. Here, the dιcor is cool and the coffee is good. And the Director of Cocoa Tree twenty something Issac Alexander is keen to keep it that way and is dreamy about youngsters thronging in there. He plans to get magazines and guitar for some live strummy music but right now he is playing CDs, making sure the coffee is right and keeping soggy samosas at bay. The freshly ground beans mix into a whole range of hot and cold coffees. Says Issac, "For our coffees we use the blend of four different kinds of coffee beans and the roasted beans come direct from the planters. I store them at minus 20 degrees Celsius and only what is required for the day is taken out to retain the freshness."

If you like your cuppa steaming hot you have at least twelve different kinds to choose from and some of them coffees are flavoured too- strawberry, orange, chocolate, Irish etc. If it is spices that you dig then there is such a kind on the menu- Mexican spice Coffee. The spices ginger, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg are so delicately mixed with the coffee that they don't shriek on your palate: "Hey I am here." It is mellow and warm just perfect to relax after a shopping spree.

And the blueberry pie is a great aside for the gossip that you are catching up on. Layered with blueberry and cream cheese the pie is moment of pure pleasure. But they need to do something about their pie base, a little limp there but Issac says that he is working on it. But something wickedly more pleasurable is the Xcess Avalanche from the dessert section. The chocolate brownie is warmed for a second to melt the chocolate and topped with ice cream and fresh whipped cream is piled on high. Throw in couple more bucks and you can have the mountain of cream and ice cream peaking higher and higher. Oops! When that cream slides it is definitely an avalanche. In the dessert section you are spoilt for choice. There is Pink Lady - a strawberry treat, Choconut pie with ice cream, Vanilla cloud, Fudge Brownie Sundae, Mudslide etc. If it is cold coffee that you like there are eight different kinds of them on the menu right down to Black Cold coffee with cream. And there are pizzas, pies, burgers and sandwiches to go with the cold coffees. Cocoa Tree seems like a great place to hang out, to drop that shopping bag and gossip or even to take your sweetheart and be moon struck.
