Inspired by Nature

SNOW-CAPPED mountains, meandering streams and stately cedars — that's what Madhurima's art is all about. Her oils on canvas are inspired by Nature and she says her work is an attempt to create awareness and appreciation for the beauty of Nature.

Her canvases are full of winding mountain roads overlooking panoramic forests, towering Alpine trees, green fields and snowy peaks, and flowers blooming on the shore of crystal clear lakes.

Her work is technically sound but the Swiss scenes and twilight seascapes seem a little too studied, sometimes a trifle flat — they lack dimension and the spark of free brush strokes that would add true beauty to the landscapes. Some canvases stand out — a little stone cottage bathed in rays of the setting sun, a park in the twilight, cedars reflected on the surface of a lake.

The exhibition is on till July 18, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Lalit Kala Akademi, Greams Road, Nungambakkam.
