COTTON elegance

APTLY POSITIONED as the store for "home-need textiles", Cotton Craft is a one-stop shop for all furnishing needs and much more. Shopping to refurbish and change the look of your house can be quite an ordeal. Checking out three or four or more places, hunting for different requirements and still ending up with the usual or ill-coordinated stuff is an all-too-common experience. Not to mention the wallet factor.

One option would be to bear all this stoically. The other, would be to visit Cotton Craft. Extremely attractive both in terms of looks and pricing, you can pick whatever you wanted for your home — right from kitchen towels to straw curtains.

Started in 1998 by Nagiah, the store, which has two branches, one in Jayanagar and the other in Indiranagar, stocks furnishings of all kinds in a wide range of colours. "The fabric is 100 per cent cotton and they are sourced from various parts of Tamil Nadu," says S.C.S. Velu, Manager of the Jayanagar branch.

The best part of the entire range is the striking colours, affording the luxury of decorating your home with a uniform colour scheme. From the bright hues of orange, blue, and so on to the pastel shades of yellow, green and peach. If you are in a mood to experiment, you can mix and match them or go be daring with combinations: choose yellow as the dominant colour and contrast it with a dash of bright orange and rust when it comes to cushions and curtain rings. Mixing green and blue is also another lively option.

There are door and window curtains available in two sizes — 3x5 ft. and 4x5 ft. for windows and 3x7 ft. and 4x7 ft. for doors. Attractively priced between Rs. 150 and Rs. 230, some have a simple but elegant border running at the top that Mr. Velu claims is their specialty. Ready to use, they can be teamed up with matching or contrasting curtain rings that are available at Rs. 40 per pair. Another trendy option is the range of straw curtains, which seem to combine the advantages of blinds as well as the usual curtains.

Accessories available include floor rugs, lawn mats, runners, dhurries in various colours, and floor mats. Here again, using floor cushions as a low-seating option can add a new look to your home. Cushions are available in sizes from 12x12" to 30x30". Accordingly, there are stunning cushion covers in plains, checks and self-prints, apart from bolsters and bolster covers.

Tablecloths are available here in four sizes. You can pick up the packaged table set that includes a tablecloth, six napkins, six mats, a runner and a breadbasket, priced at Rs. 550.

Single bedspreads are available at Rs. 200 apiece while doubles are between Rs. 350 and Rs. 450. Matching pillow are Rs. 50 each. "The quality of the cotton is very good," adds Mr. Velu.

Among other things that you can pick up here are the various multipurpose bags that can be used for shopping, carrying shoes, laundry bags and so on, apart from excellent cotton terry towels waterproof aprons. Kitchen towels in bright colours are priced between Rs 15 and Rs 20.

Check out their lovely hammocks that you always wanted for your garden or balcony. There is also a baby version that makes for a good gift for a young member of the family.

The store also holds an exhibition once in a month at V.R. Plaza near Safina Plaza.

You can Cotton Craft on 26340286, 36822218 or 98450 05343.
