Just right for a lazy Sunday

SUNDAY MORNINGS are the "no-cooking, family-outing" days. If you and your family love the idea of a long and lazy Sunday morning followed by a brunch, Oblivion Clubs on 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar, is worth a visit. With flexible timings (from 11 a.m. all the way till 4 p.m.), it gives you ample time to plan other parts of the day.

Started a month or so ago, the highlights of this brunch are freshly baked breads and healthy salads. The breadbasket has assortment of rolls, croissants, muffins, Danish pastry, foccacia, Chelsea buns, and even ragi bread for those who love a local flavour. Typical English breakfast lovers can accompany their choice of bread with eggs, which are done to order — poached, fried, sunny side up, boiled, or omelettes stuffed with ham, mushrooms, and cheese.

Chef Rajiv Basak stresses on the salads that he has come up with, especially for the brunch. He lays out a spread of five vegetarian and five non-vegetarian salads with dressings of dill yogurt, mustard yogurt, orange yogurt, balsamic, black bean, and maple that you can pour on as you please.

The potato salad, with boiled baby potatoes and cucumber in lemon and dill yogurt dressing, is worth trying for the vegetarians, while non-veggies can enjoy the grilled fish with herb lemon vinaigrette, Oriental beef with onions and tomatoes, and shredded chicken with black bean dressing, and toasted sesame. Oblivion's salads aren't all just chopped and tossed, but some, like the chicken in black bean are actually sautéed, and then served.

The main menu at the buffet doesn't really stand out from the regular fare that the restaurant serves. However, it does maintain a fair balance between Indian and Western tastes, serving a bit of both. Two pastas for the veggies and spaghetti with meatballs constitute the Italian flavours. Chicken in red wine thyme sauce and fish in mustard sauce lure the non-veggie palate. The tangy lime coriander sauce saves the crispy veggies, which were slightly tough to bite.

The brunch is different in that it offers a number of bites to those who may like to enjoy their drinks for a while before they eat a heavy lunch. However, these are served on order and not laid out in the spread. The restaurant serves Pesto mushroom crostini, tomato olive bruschettas, chicken flatbreads, nachos, and cold cuts upon request.

A delectable dessert platter greets you at the end of the meal, which again has a blend of both Indian and Western desserts: apple crumble, gooey chocolate pie, kesari phirni, and laccha rabdi to name a few.

The brunch buffet is priced at Rs. 399 without beer and Rs. 555 with unlimited Fosters beer. Oblivion Clubs can be reached on 51153242.
