Italian food, Italian way

AS YOU step into the vicinity of Tonino-Restorante Italiano, the typical European villa-look at once hits you. The decor done in bright hues, well complimented with furniture in browns and dim light further gives a European tinge. The soft Italian music in the backdrop elevates your spirit.

Celebrating La Dolce Vita in style, Tonino promises to bring your way the authentic Italian experience with just the right spirits to match the cuisine. Tonino has recently added a bar to its wing.

It claims to serve Italian food the way it is meant to be had, with the right full-bodied Barolo or Barberesco. Let the lightness and sparkle of chilled Chianti to clear the palette between bites.

Or simply enjoy the pleasure of a chilled draught beer with lip-smacking pizzas from a traditional wood fired oven. The focus chiefly though is on the Italian wine.

Chef Suman asserts that the wine and spirit menu is based on an extensive research. In true Italian style, attention has been paid to the natural flavours and the presentation of food, adds Suman.

Tonino claims to have a menu that includes the favourites of many regions of Italy. Begin your meal with antipasti - appetisers. The antipasti Misti combines all the traditional favourites like parma, ham, salami, chicken ham, smoked salmon, marinated artichokes and olives; while the vegetarian selection has the Melanzene-al-Tonino, a shallow fried sandwich of eggplant and cheese splashed with coriander oil. Thick delicious soups made of meats, vegetables and biennial herbs, eaten with a sprinkle of graded cheese and fresh bread, are a gratifying beginning to the meal.

Move on to the Primi Piatti where you can savour the traditional delights of the region. There is an array of pastas available, which includes lasagna and cannelloni. The Tonino special is the Tortelloni Di Spinaci. Or go in for the Capelli Di Angello Con Pollo Spinaci, angel hair pasta with chicken and spinach in wine sauce.

Next, roll on to the second Piatti, a mix of meats, seafood and vegetables in sauces. Try the Italian Tempter, a combination of chicken escalope vegetable lasagna and capelli alfredo or the chef's recommendations; the open lobster lasagna with mussels three pepper and lobster bolognaise.

Well, even the desserts have that Italian touch. Be it chocolate lasagna, zuccotto or torta di mango fresca chef assures, you won't be left disappointed.
