Earthy look

CLOTHES OR CRAFTS, everything traditional is now making a fashion statement. And terracotta products serve utilitarian as well as decorative purposes.

Earth Pulse, a newly opened store in Anna Nagar (AA, L'Man premises, 2nd Avenue), is holding an exhibition of handcrafted terracotta products. The exhibition will mainly feature Kumbham creations. A small movement started by activist-designer K. B. Jinan, Kumbham helped rehabilitate the artisan community of Aruvacode in North Kerala, famous for its skilled potters.

Kumbham products are handmade but have a machine-like finish. They come in unique shapes and designs. They have found pride of place in many homes, offices and hotels.

Other products available at the store are handcrafted terracotta masks, tulsi madams and decorative pots created by well known artist Muruganandam. There are also attractive urlis made by Pondicherry-based artist Munuswamy. And if your wish to sport an ethnic look, there is terracotta jewellery by Manoj Sarkar of Kolkata.
