A taste of Cowboy cuisine

WANNA TRY a `truly different' taste? Glue a smirk a la Clint Eastwood on to your face and head to Hotel Abad Plaza's `Regency' restaurant to have some cowboy favourites. `Tex Mex', the `Steaks & Grills' fest is on till May 30, between 7 pm and 11 pm.

With an impressive ambience, the restaurant has been arranged well to receive the guests who can choose virtually any dish from the buffet dinner menu. Mr. Tyron, the one-man western music band sings some melodious numbers, "to set the right mood for the guests." The welcome drink, `Pink Panther,' a mixture of fresh tomato juice with soft drinks and cream is followed by soup. Opt for either `Shrimp Vichyssoise' or `Soup Alaska'.

The buffet options are a spread of non-vegetarian dishes as `Fish Steak Frankfurt', spicy marinated and tenderly grilled fish, `Lamb Mascotte', meat with rich sauce in gravy, delicious `Chicken Steak Mercedes' and `Steak Cowboy', made of tender beef.

Vegetarian options include `Cauliflower Florentine', `Veg. A'la Grecque', `Egg Plant Naples', `Grilled Mushroom' and `Mexican Frittor', dried bread pasted with Mexican `masala'.

Chef Gopu explains that the cowboy dishes are usually dry, spicy but easily digestible varieties considering the fact that they carry it during their routine travels. He agrees with the mantra, "steaks should never be overcooked."

The cold cuts include `American Flank Steak Slice', `Chicken Pepper Slice', `Spicy Lever Patie' and `Veg. Patie.'

The range of salads to choose from includes `Beet & Shrimps', `Bretron', `Caroline' and `Algerian'. With all these items, Texas rice, Maccaroni, Garlic bread, Croissant, Italian Pan Cake and Mashed Potato are there too. The dessert menu is rich with the usual attractions.

"We hold several food fests, and the `steaks and grills' which we have every year gets good response from our clients," says Devi Gopinath, the restaurant manager at Abad Plaza. "At Rs.190 for an adult and Rs.110 for kids, the price is reasonable," he adds.

So what about chomping at some food from the Wild West, here in the city.
