Amid traffic, yet cosy

Pot Pourri is the new snug multi-cuisine diner on Begumpet Main Road


THE SOUND of traffic snarls add to the voices of diners inside, with R&B and soul numbers played in the background. . Aptly called Pot Pourri, the cosy restaurant is a new eating out option on the busy Begumpet Road, managed by the husband-wife duo Ramchander and Sumithra.

"We have been in this field since five years and we have ensured that people do not say yeh to sab jagah milta hai (you get this everywhere). As for the ambience, we wanted the place to have an ethnic feel about it," says Sumithra. So, one finds a generous helping of good earth, in the form of terracotta lanterns, an auspicious Ganesha in terracotta with copper finish and a wall façade in mud finish. Completing the hue is the woody note around - panels and handcrafted wooden chairs with inlay work. Ample natural light makes the restaurant a relaxing place to lunch .

"By night the place has a different look when the restaurant is lit up and the hues around take a rich tone," says Sumithra, pointing to the maroon upholstery. The hue is carried forward, as burgundy runners on a cream tablecloth, an appropriate option to hold the copper kadais and white chinaware alike.

"We offer Indian, Chinese and Tandoori cuisine," says Ramchander. "In fact, our tandoori fare is doing really well," he adds. Chicken tikka, Tandoori fish and a very Hyderabadi Murgh mussalam are some of the char-grilled delicacies. Moving to the main course, options include Indian breads and rices--roti, naan, Peas pulao and biryani along with Vegetable do pyaza, Bhuna gosht, Boondi raita and Andhra chicken. And if you are a noodles and fried rice freak, choose from American and Chinese chop sueys, Schezwan fried rice as well as familiar Chicken 65, Fish Apollo, Vegetable gold coin and more. Wrap up the meal with the traditional kheer, Khubani ka meetha or the Chef's Special dessert. Apart from the menu, the restaurant also offers quite a few "day's specials" such as Goan fish curry, Boti kebab and Singapore noodles. "Most of the people working in GE, Wipro, Intergraph, Satyam and other IT firms around, come over for a lunch. Keeping this in mind, we ensure that there is ample variety. And also we are open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. so that they can come over whenever they break for lunch or supper. We are contemplating on working out a corporate lunch package as well as planning to introduce a sumptuous breakfast spread shortly. It would include the Hyderabadi roti and kheema traditional breakfast and also sandwiches. We are open to suggestions that we could incorporate for the customers benefit," says Sumithra. "We are hardly a month old and have a good response. Weekends we go packed. But there is so much more to add to the menu and the ambience," adds Ramchander. "And probably, another similar restaurant with an earthy feel to it," says Sumithra.
