Buffet `n' beer

A month-long Grand Buffet is on at Fortune Katriya Hotel

A GENEROUS helping of biryani and baked fish along with a pitcher of draught beer for the first round, if you are skipping the soup and salad that is, only to go back for a refill, of all of them! Well, Fortune Katriya Hotel by Welcomgroup (#8, Raj Bhavan Road, Somajiguda, Tel: 23325678) presents the Food and Fizzzzz Grand Buffet at Orchids, the multi-cuisine restaurant here. "We have provided a mobile beer counter at the beginning of the buffet offering unlimited draught beer since beer is a preferred summertime drink, adding fizz to the lunch and dinner buffet for the season. The buffet is an elaborate multi-cuisine — Continental, Chinese and Indian — spread. We are reinforcing our buffet as it is popular, though an alternative a la carte is also available all through the festival," explains Nicholas Fernandes, general manager, Fortune Katriya Hotel by Welcomgroup.

During the month-long fare, find on the buffet (12 noon - 3 p.m., Rs. 300 plus taxes: 8 p.m. - 11 p.m., Rs. 350 plus taxes) Italian cuisine — vegetables cooked al dante or crunchy crisp as seen in Baked vegetables that go well with bread. The Chinese spread includes popular noodles, with curries taking spicy Schezwan notes such as Eggplant in hot garlic sauce. Indian fare holds a very north Indian Aloo capsicum, Murgh roghan to the native Dalcha with biryani. Fusion cuisine such as Tandoori gobi (cauliflower seasoned with Schezwan sauces and cooked in a tandoor) or Paneer do pyaza (cottage cheese made in the Hyderabadi style), also feature on the buffet. Live counters towards the evening offer familiar boulevard fare — Chicken tikka and Kaleji fried to make the affair appetising.

Desserts include soufflés and burfis along with low-calorie desserts such as sugar-free custard. "We have kept the cuisine light since it is summer. Also, for the Mango and tango concept, we plan to use a lot of mangoes for whipping up desserts as also in adding the tangy flavour to the chicken and mutton preparations," says E. Kashi Rao, executive chef, Fortune Katriya Hotel by Welcomgroup.

And adding to this summer cool feel is the restaurant. Finished in a minimalist cream-and-white décor with a few trim floral sketches and green palms around, not forgetting soothing bamboo curtains, Orchids is ideal for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner, along with a pint of beer this summer. For teetotallers, there are the mocktails and fresh fruit juices.

But for more spirits, drop in for the Sunday brunch (12 noon-3.30 p.m., Rs. 325 plus taxes) where unlimited white spirits, gin and vodka, and beer complement the lavish spread. One occasion to say cheers to the summer.
