GRAPEVINE

This summer, cool yourself with grapes in a variety of ways.

WITH RISING temperature, it is wise to cool ourselves with the choicest fruits available in the season. While grapes/ grape juice could be the best thing you can offer your guests, some variety in the preparation could spice up the day a bit more.

Here are some interesting variations one can try with the juicy fruit.

Country grape sherbet

Ingredients
Dairy cream (sour it with 1 tsp lemon juice) - 1 cup
Milk - 1 cup
Lemon juice - 1/4 cup
Sugar - 1-1/2 cup
Grape juice - 1 cup

Method: Combine all the ingredients and beat until sugar dissolves. Pour into two refrigerator trays and freeze until nearly firm.

Turn mixture into chilled bowl and beat until fluffy and smooth. Pour into glasses, and serve chilled with your choice of garnish.

Grape ice cream

Ingredients
Heavy cream - 330 ml
Grape puree (unsweetened) - 1-1/4 cups
Sugar - 1/3 cup
Fresh lemon or lime juice - a few drops

Method: Mix the cream, grape puree, and sugar together and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add fresh lemon or lime juice to taste. Freeze in a hand-cranked or electric ice cream maker.

Caramelised grapes

Ingredients

Red or green grapes (seedless) - 5 cups
Sour cream - 2 cups
Sugar - 1/2 cup
Vanilla - 2 tbsp
Butter - 1/2 cup
Brown sugar - 1/2 cup

Method: Wash and dry grapes. Mix Sour cream, sugar and vanilla together.

Pour cream mixture over grapes and stir gently. Pour this mixture into a pan. In a saucepan, bring butter and brown sugar to a boil. Immediately pour over grapes. Don't stir.

Chill for three to four hours.

Grape punch

Ingredients

Grape juice - 500 ml
Khus syrup - 2 tbsp
Strawberry crush - 2 tbsp
Crushed peppermint - 1 tbsp
Yoghurt - 1/2 cup

Method: Mix all in a blender and serve chilled with half strawberry as garnish. Simply enjoy the drink.
