Just like Ros


ONCE AN English minister was invited by an Indian king for dinner. After having his meal to the full, he stopped eating. "Please take something more," the king insisted. "I cannot. I am full to the capacity," the minister replied. But soon jalebis arrived. "Some jalebis, please," the server offered. The minister immediately lapped up the offer to the king's surprise. "But... ," the king queried. "For me jalebis are like the carriage of the Governor. See, however thick is the crowd on road, if a Governor's carriage reaches there, the crowd disperses to give it space. Similarly, the food I ate dispersed to give way to my favourite dish," the minister replied.

Visit Ros Thai, the Thai cuisine restaurant at Sahara Mall in Gurgaon and you may just end up recalling this story after consuming many dishes. And don't dismiss the dishes saying they it is just food because you might just experience the entire civilisation here. The civilisation of the traditional Thai cooking, that Mahendra Suwal, Managing Director of the Ros Thai claims, comes straight from the household kitchens of the country. To give evidence, they have two full-time chefs Khun Jongrak and Khun Sangwanchai, especially flown from the country.

You might just be spoiled with their hospitality especially when they celebrate "Songkran" - Thai New Year in a week-long food festival. At this 72-cover restaurant, the walls are adorned with paintings from the country depicting folklore and other stories. Among the dishes, Khao Tang Nar Tang, crispy fried rice served with special coconut milk dip with minced chicken, prawn and peanuts, might just make you eat like a glutton. While Kanom Pung Nar Kai, deep fried peppery chicken might just be a test for your strong teeth. Four types of salads both vegetarian and non-vegetarian make the choice difficult. The main course includes five dishes, Kang Kiew Wan, Khao Phad Kraparao, Chu Chee and others. Don't forget to try Takhoo Shakoo, coconut cream based dessert. It's light and well, strange!
