New Yorker offers a platter of kebabs, naans and Indian curries at the ongoing Tandoori Festival


WHAT DOES a Hyderabadi do after landing in a multi-cuisine restaurant? Ask for Paneer tikka, Dal fry and naan, of course. Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani you see.

"We had a limited Indian menu. For instance, we have a Tawa paratha but not a naan. Our regular guests wanted more of Indian cuisine. But as a franchisee we have to take permission before we add new Indian cuisine. The best way was to organise a food festival and later introduce the dishes in the regular menu. We had a Paratha Festival in January which was well received and now it is the Tandoori Festival," says Ashish Gaggar of New Yorker, the restaurant that serves largely Mexican, Italian and Lebanese cuisine. Therefore till April 10, one can find desi delicacies along with nachos, lasagne and falafel here.

Since this is a vegetarian restaurant, here is a good chance to try some veg kebabs. And colourful they are, from a Paneer pahadi kebab in red gravy to a green Paneer hariali tikka. Apart from the cottage cheese-based preparations, Tandoori aloo and Vegetable sheekh kebab are other options in starters that the food festival offers.

For the main course, the restaurant lines up the popular Palak paneer, Malai kofta, Paneer butter masala andIndian breads like Missi roti, Onion kulcha, Cheese garlic naan, Masala kulcha and Pudina paratha. Undecided? Opt for a Roti tokri, an appetising basket of assorted breads or even better a pre-plated platter. "We have many takers for the platter," says Ashish.

Priced between Rs. 89 and Rs. 199, the platters hold various assortments such as Onion kulcha, Raita, Jeera rice and Dal makhni or a pure tandoori New Yorker special kebab platter, each coming with a free Pepsi. Wrap up with a matching dessert New Yorker brownie sundae— vanilla ice cream topped with luscious sauces and cashews and served on a sizzler!

Also the restaurant plans to introduce Happy Hours starting March 25, offering a discount of 30 per cent, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Friday, on starters, pizzas and ice cream sodas from the regular menu. "We offer free home delivery within three kilometres, say for residents in Begumpet, Somajiguda, Punjagutta, Khairtabad, Ameerpet and Jubilee Hills," adds Ashish.
