For a beautiful neck

Here are some essential dos for a soft and well-toned neck.

A GREY and dull neck can be a big letdown. " The neck region lacks sebaceous glands and it is the first area to show signs of ageing. It is essential to take care of the neck along with the face," says beautician Laila Kakade.

Common neck woes: A dark pallor with white patches is a common problem on the neck area. "This is due to sheer negligence. One of the reasons why the neck gets tanned easily or looks darker is because of oxidation. Moist skin gets oxidised on exposure to sunlight. Therefore, wipe the neck thoroughly after a face wash or bath. Dark lines may form when jewellery worn along the neck touches the skin persistently. Using a wrong soap like the one with Sulphur can cause the skin to darken. Apart from external factors, factors like Vitamin B Complex deficiency can result in the formation of white patches on the neck. A generous helping of fruits, a balanced diet along with proper skin care can rid you of these problems," says Laila.

Basic neck care: "You don't have to use a special cream for this purpose. A regular moisturiser will do. Buttermilk is a very good cleanser for the neck, especially for those with oily skin. Cold milk with a little turmeric is good for normal to dry skin types. Apart from regular cleansing, opt for a weekly neck care routine. Cleanse the skin with a creamy cleanser. Massage the neck with a liberal amount of cleanser. Leave it on for a few minutes till it dissolves the dirt. Remove the cleanser using cotton wool. Follow this up with exfoliation. Gently scrub the neck with a mixture of oatmeal and apricot scrub. Using yoghurt can also help remove the tan on the neck. Apply a layer of yoghurt over the neck area. Leave it on for around 20 minutes and rinse with warm water. Apply some regular moisturiser and massage gently," says Laila.

Some dos: "Make sure your regular facial or make up also includes the neck. Use a sunscreen with SPF 35 on the neck to avoid the tan. Do a few neck rotation exercises to tone the area," says Laila.
