Scripting success

SHE HAS done Chennai proud. Yes, Shilpa V. Rathnam, a student of National Public School, has bagged the Jury's Special Mention Award at the finale of the maiden edition of the nationwide talent search Classmate Young Author contest held in Delhi. The contest attracted more than 15,000 students from 500 schools across eight Indian cities.

The jury included eminent author Ruskin Bond, satirist Jug Suraiya, Rupa and Co. editor Indira Khanna and writer Anita Nair.

Announcing the award, Ruskin Bond said, "It was a pleasant change to be exposed to the thoughts of today's budding writers. The jury had a tough job. The enthusiasm with which 15,000 children across the country participated makes them all winners."

"It was thrilling and a dream come true," said Shilpa about her visit to Delhi and interaction with Ruskin Bond and other personalities. Shilpa, residing in Chennai, is an avid reader of thrillers and novels. This is the first ever award won by her at the national level. Shilpa gets a gift voucher worth Rs. 10,000.
