Rendezvous with Rajasthan
Anokhi of Jaipur now has an exclusive outlet in the city
ANOKHI OF Jaipur now has an exclusive Chennai address. And it was announced in quite a `unique' (that's what Anokhi means) style with an open air fashion show where the city's ramp-regulars cat-walked on the cemented floor and in broad daylight. For a change, the models and the fashion-conscious were on the same footing, giving the dressy and discerning crowd a closer view of textures, patterns and prints. Also for a change, the svelte girls sashayed in affordable and wearable creations.
Sunil Menon, who choreographed the show, managed to add a dash of imagination while presenting the simple collection. The different, or rather the difficult stage set-up added to his challenge.
Enter Anokhi for a rendezvous with Rajasthan. Made-ups (Rs. 600 onwards) in traditional hues mostly plain or with florals and stripes, wooden accessories in earthy black and brown, furnishing, bidri work, papier mache boxes, handmade cards, folders, diaries and much more. There's an ethnic touch to everything gift items or garments.
For men there are vegetable dyed shirts and kurtas in subtle and striking shades. Crinkled skirts, duppattas, sarongs, tops, kurtis, kurtas, etc in classic combinations of brown, black, pink, white, cream make you walk tall with their finesse in finish and styling.
The old-world bungalow on the Chamiers Road in which Anokhi is housed matches the traditional textiles it specialises in.
