Sinfully rich experience

Vacs Pastries is a real deal and a must for the die-hard pastry-people

Name: Vacs Pastries

Location: Plot 22, New Vasavi Nagar, Karkhana, Secunderabad, Tel: 27740233

Cuisine: For great-tasting pastries and cookies, you can't do much better than Vacs pastries in Secunderabad. Stick around at this popular neighbourhood and enjoy some wonderfully good-value biscotti and energising espresso. If you are pastry-pudding person, this place is a sublime choice: Over 30 varieties of pastries and double the number of snacks and delicious cookies, and if that isn't mind blowing, they keep adding new items every now and then.

Service: Prompt if one induces haste. Dependable, mostly self-service though.

First impression: Vacs is a small, cosy one-room street side hangout that is wonderfully light and cheery. The place is bright. The music is loud as in a coffee pub, but the choice of discs could have been better. Has a few tables so you can sit and enjoy your treats. And there is excess energy flowing all around.

On the menu: Do not miss the Dixie Chicks they will certainly make you dance with a joyful mouthful. Vacs serves delicious bottom-toasted crust pizza topped with quality fresh mozzarella, crushed tomatoes, and a couple of classical toppings.

Their pastries are a culinary treat that's hard to beat anywhere, just forget the grease in the cheese. Cakes come in all sizes and shapes. Mousse and Soufflés are a special delight as much as the homemade chocolates and wafers.

When you're done, sit back for an espresso, served with a perfect cream on top and a little syrup to drizzle in that perfect flavour.

Recommended: In the festive season, it will be a sin if one does not try out the dark rum-soaked raisin-rich plum cakes. Did anyone say `Hercules'?

Marzipan fruits, Special Vacs Christmas pudding and sinfully rich pastries with butter icing are surely worth a try.

Ownerspeak: Proprietor V. Amar Choudary emphasises that fresh, quality ingredients go into everything they serve. "Hygiene, quality and service are the things I would never compromise on."

Meal for two: Rs. 50 - 150

Con: Sometimes tough to park your vehicle. Weight gain is a natural tendency. People who have problems with noise should be faintly careful.

Postscript: Vacs pastries is a real deal and a must for the die-hard pastry-people. Park yourself in one of those comfy low-slung seats and gaze at the busy road outside till your order arrives: Oven-fresh, bottom-toasted, delightfully delicious.
