Unwind and indulge

A gastronomic experience at Lautre is a class affair

DON'T COME to Lautre for a plate of Biryani, do come here for exquisite examples of Sushi Chef Ramesh Chandra's art. Recently opened in Lifestyle building, Lautre (Tel: 55101432) is an ideal situation to unwind and indulge in a reassuring gastronomic experience. The rest-o-bar dishes out a few best cuisines from around the world in an outstanding ambience matched by a few in town.

Muted lighting, mellow colours and minimal upholstery characterise the classy interiors of Lautre, (a French-derivative) - the literal meaning of which is `the other one'.

"We want to make Lautre an experience," says managing director, Ravi Kishore. Good food and good wine complete that prospect. In the compact menu, one can find the finest Italian, Indonesian, Thai and Mexican fare, along with a touch of Indian cuisine. Understated music could have actually been manna in that kind of an environment.


The menu is tastefully done up with a range of salad, soups and starters that set the tone for the Entrée. For those passionate about pasta, there's a choice of Penne, Fusilli, Farfelle and Spaghetti in traditional sauces like, Napolitaine, Spinacchi, Arrabiatta, Chef Di Pollo, Funghi and Lamb Bolognaise.

Sizzlers are USP of Lautre. Chef Ramesh recommends Tenderloin steak (well-done steak in a choice of mushroom or pepper sauce, served with buttered rice), Sizzling Kebab meal (Tequila-flavoured chicken kebab, served with Roomali roti and accompanied with Dal makhani) and Oriental chicken sizzler (Cubes of chicken and bell peppers tossed in oriental sauce and served on a bed of oriental rice). In the vegetarian main course are, Enchiladas, Florentine, Dal Makhni (traditional butter dal served with jeera pulao and green salad). The Burmese Kauswe, Thai red and green curry with fresh vegetables, baby corn and cottage cheese, and Dahi Pakodi are three curries that are must-haves.

In the non-veg. main course, Chicken stroganoff (chicken cooked with mushroom and pickled gherkins in a roast gravy and served with Parsley rice), Nasi Goreng (Indonesian rice preparation, cooked with prawns, fish and egg, and served with satay sticks) and Kheema (lamb mince, green peas cooked with ground spices, and served with rotis) are the best sellers. Fine wine is obligatory with such fine food. Try out the sparkling Marquise de Pompadour, - the fresh aroma of even the vineyard is intact.

Desserts at Lautre are unique. The Sizzling brownie (sizzling brownie with chocolate sauce and a scoop of ice-cream, served on a sizzling hot plate) is available nowhere in town. Or the Jamaican Rum Banana, which is a salute to an indulgence that is Lautre.
