Singapore alive

THE KERALA Fine Arts Hall, Kochi, will be the first stop for the Centre for the Arts, National University of Singapore (NUS), now on their maiden full-fledged tour. Earlier on student groups from the university travelled alone for various international concerts, competitions, festivals and cultural exchange programmes, but this is the first time they are travelling together, bringing forth the rich diversity of Singapore's cultures. This tour to South India will have selected members of the NUS Chinese Dance, Indian dance, Ilsa Tari, the renamed version of the Malay Dance, dance Synergy or modern dance and the Chinese Orchestra. Key choreographers like Santha Bhaskar, Osman Abdul Hamid, Lun Yan Sing, and Ding Hong will accompany them. They will perform at the Kerala Fine Arts Hall on December 7 at 6 p.m, followed by performances at Mysore, Pondicherry and two show at Chennai. Prof. Edwin Thumboo, Director, Centre for Arts (CFA), is leading the delegation.

Apart from introducing Singapore's rich and unique cultural mosaic to others through their performances, the aim of this tour is to get a first hand sense of India's rich and dynamic cultural heritage. The group will also travel to several historical sites and monuments, apart from the prominent dance and music schools. And to document this significant tour will be a team from MediaCorp TV 12 Arts Central, with a view of broadcasting the events in Singapore.
