Silver for puja

A number of items in German silver will be on display at 95 Parklane Lane from today till December 6

RAJASTHAN IS known for its woodwork. This craft found its way into the religious life as it was used in making ornaments, ceremonial arches, pillars, chowkis, stools and other things related to religion and rituals. The royal households used to coat the wooden articles with gold and silver sheets for ceremonial purposes. Gradually the gold and silver was replaced by white metal to make it economically viable. To enhance the beauty of these items they were further embellished with enamel colours.

Besides furniture white metal items like stools (peetalu) for idols, agarbatti holders, picture frames, key holders, magazine/newspaper holders, puja thalis, thorans, stands for holy books are available. These comprise the puja collection which will be on sale and display at 95 Parklane, Secunderabad (Tel: 27812160) from today till December 6 (from 10.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.).

Prices range from Rs. 65 to Rs. 700. These items made of German silver are easy to maintain and can be used every day.
