Internet access
I RECENTLY subscribed to a Dishnet DSL broadband Internet connection. The marketing executive told me that an amount of Rs. 8,630 was payable at the time of installation. The break-up is as follows: Rs. 6,995 as non-refundable installation charges, a month's advance rent of Rs. 995 and service tax on both at 8 per cent, totalling Rs. 8630.
The Internet connection was provided at my office after I paid the amount. Now, in the first bill, Dishnet DSL is seeking to charge advance rent for the next month while the actual usage charges for the month is to be paid. When I enquired why I was being asked to remit advance rent again, the company told me the amount paid with the installation charges was a deposit and that the connection would be disconnected if I did not pay in full.
Accordingly, the connection was disconnected from September 19, 2003. Can company officials please clarify?

Response from Dishnet DSL
THE CUSTOMER has subscribed to a plan that entails the following payments:
Non-refundable Installation charges : Rs. 6,995
Security refundable at the time of termination/surrender of the connection : Rs. 995
Total : Rs. 7,990
Service tax @ 8% : Rs. 639.20
Total (Rounded) : Rs. 8, 630
The deposit of Rs. 995 is refundable when the customer chooses to surrender or terminate the connection, and this refund will be after adjustment of dues, if any, from the customer. Our customer care personnel have explained to the customer that this is in accordance with the service terms he has signed up with us.
He has since made the necessary monthly payments as per our bill for his monthly access and traffic charges, and has been reconnected.
