Touch of royalty

THE SEMI-PRECIOUS stone-studded tableware, mirror frames and arterfacts have a certain magnificence about them, reminiscent of the erstwhile Indian royalty.

And indeed, Ruchira Saraf who has designed the amethyst, semi-emerald, orange and agate embedded tableware and other artefacts, drew inspiration from old havelis and palaces of Rajasthan and Hyderabad.

She has fashioned a splendid array of handis, servers and platters after the stone-studded gold vessels of royal families. Her repertoire includes amethyst and jade inlaid trays, jewel boxes, coasters and photoframes. The natural colours of the stones compel attention and the delicate Ramdani work in brass plated with gold gives the items a rich look.

Mughal floral patterns intertwined with vines and trellises and zardosi-like wiring work lend a royal touch.

Her exhibition-cum-sale of semi-precious and handcrafted items is on today at Taj Ballroom, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
