Rajeshwari Sachdev, actress and singer, gives her best to whatever she does

HER ENTHUSIASM is very infectious. And this friendly Piscean lady makes everyone feel comfortable. She began her career with a bang. Awards are an integral part of her acting. Meet Rajeshwari Sachdev, award winning actress and singer who is most down-to-earth.

Movies, theatre, television, music and singing, compering and dancing are her forte and she excels in all of them. She has been associated with I.P.T.A. (Indian People's Theatre Association) since childhood. She has won accolades for her performance in films like Sardari Begum, Suraj ka Satwaan Ghoda, Marathi film Aatya Gharat Ghoroba. She has won the screen award for TV serial Margarita.

Bernando Bertolucci cast her opposite Keanu Reeves in the film Little Buddha. Her role in the film Hari Bhari (directed by Shyam Benegal) won her the national award in the year 2000. Having worked in many Shyam Benegal films, Rajeshwari knows the importance of characterisation and she loves to be involved in each and every aspect of the role. Singing just happened to her. She has released two albums and has hosted the most long running show on Zee TV Close -Up Antakshari. She feels, "if man so desires he can learn whatever he wishes. So why could I not learn singing." And she practices everyday. She is working on an album based on folk songs right now, which will be released shortly.

Her role in the telly soap Kahani Ghar Ghar kii has got her many accolades. Even though it is a negative role, she has shades of positive human traits too. "Working for this serial has been a group/team effort," she admits. Her saris in this role have been trend setting and if one goes to the market (in Mumbai) to shop for them one can just ask for Ambika saris (Ambika is her name in the serial) and you can get a wide range of chiffon saris.

She has hosted a fun-loving serial Tide Khel Khel Mein, a game show in which she plays a game with a whole family. The serial has been shot in cities like Mumbai, Chandigarh and Delhi. The basic idea is just to bring the family together on Sundays. Says Rajeshwari, "I go to people's houses as they are most comfortable in their own environment. Moreover, the whole family can play together, and spend a lovely day with each other. Most families tell me that they have not done this since many years."

She has also played a role in Priya Singh Paul's film The Perfect Husband along with Neha Dubey. It is a fun film where the search for a perfect husband lands the family in a hilarious comedy.

A perfectionist by nature, she wants to grab every opportunity and give her best to everything that she does. Her philosophy is, "Whatever I do in life, I should be able to give it my best." She has done so far and will perhaps continue to do so.
