Sumptuous spread

The simple yet tastefully done-up Orchid Restaurant of Fortune Katriya Hotel by Welcomgroup offers multi-cuisine fare.

TEMPTING FOOD: The buffet is wholesome.

THE FIRST impression of Orchid Restaurant in the newly-opened Fortune Katriya Hotel by Welcomgroup (which is a wholly-owned ITC subsidiary Hotel) is the spacious interiors. Brightly lit, simply done-up Orchid has a seating capacity of about 100. The restaurant beckons though it is not colourful as the name sounds. Elegant ethnic chattais dress the windows, while the furniture is mostly in one tone. Of course the furnishing is in subtle colours. The almost stark look is broken with some greenery. There is ample space to move around as well. This is the coffee shop of the hotel serving multi-cuisine menu.

Normally coffee shops serve a few international dishes as well. So the menu as well as the buffet incorporates a few of these dishes - mainly Continental and Chinese. The buffet is a mixed fare of Indian (north and south) besides the international items. "There will be a new buffet menu everyday for lunch and dinner," says General Manager Ram Misra. Chef Narayan Rao adds: "there will be promotion of other cuisines such as Rajasthani, Gujarati and Bengali besides the regular food. Food festivals too will be a feature of the restaurant."

The buffet is quite a sumptuous spread beginning with soup (one veg and one non-veg), salads, main dishes and desserts. There is quite an array of salads - almost a dozen. The main dishes comprise rice (plain and a pulao in veg and biryani in non-veg), two continental items, two Chinese items, two north Indian dishes (of which one is a paneer one), a snack, sambhar, rasam and dal, three non-veg dishes, curd rice and dahi wada. Rotis are served on the table as per the requirement. The non-veg dishes are kept in a different table and the squeamish veggies need not fear. "The spread may be enhanced later. The nutritive value of the dishes is taken into account and no artificial colouring is used," says Chef Narayan Rao. The desserts include some Indian and Western besides cut fruits.

The breakfast buffet is also a feast - as it has idli, dosa, upma, puri bhaji, cereals, parathas, different kinds of breads, pancakes (with even maple syrup) and more.

INVITING AMBIENCE: The restaurant is apt for the family.

Those who are not game for the buffet can go in for the ala carte which will be like a coffee shop menu. The focus will be on pre-plated combo meals. Right now sandwiches, kebabs, tandoori, pasta and some South Indian dishes are served. Here too the menu will be revamped periodically.

For the inaugural period till August 31 the buffet is priced at Rs. 150 plus tax for lunch and Rs. 175 plus tax for dinner. The prices are likely to be revised later on.

The restaurant offers a nice ambience for families and those who are planning a family outing can head to Fortune Katriya Hotel (8, Raj Bhavan road, Somajiguda. Tel: 23325678). ) Bon Apetit for the gourmets.
