Exploring life through dance

"CROSSROADS — JOURNEYS and transformations through life and dance" will be presented by Nirmala Seshadri and Neewin Hershall on August 8, at 7 p.m., at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, 37/39 East Mada Street, Mylapore (ph: 24940811). Will the exploration of the intrinsic nature of man and woman foster in better understanding? "Crossroads" explores the nuances of this eternal journey of differences, meetings and partings through the structure and function of dance.

Conceived by Nirmala Seshadri, "Crossroads" is a production that reflects the coming together of two mature and dedicated dancers, Nirmala and Neewin, as they share the synergy and blending of their artistic thoughts and energies.

The production also explores human emotions and angst through mathematical forms. It is also a meeting of dance with music, poetry, film and visual art.

Born in Singapore, Nirmala Seshadri trained in Bharatanatyam in that country and then went on to hone her skills under teachers in India. She is now training in abhinaya from renowned exponent Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan.

A recipient of the Singapore National Arts Council's prestigious "Young Artist Award", Nirmala, at present, serves on the Dance Resource Panel of the National Arts Council.

Neewin Hershall began his training in Bharatanatyam in Kerala. He then came to Chennai to study at Kalakshetra.

After graduating from Kalakshetra, Neewin devoted his life to dance. He is a freelance dancer, teacher, choreographer and vocal percussionist.Donor passes (Rs. 100 and Rs. 50) for the recital are available at Landmark (Nungambakkam and Spencer Plaza), and Odyssey, ph: 24961344/24917941/24910261.
