Workshop on Thangka painting

THE NATIONAL Folklore Support Centre in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise of Madras, Chennai, is organising a workshop on Thangka Painting, as part of its Visual Art of South Asia Series, from August 18 to 22 at the Alliance Francaise of Madras. Ram Kumar Lama and Pasang Lama from the Institute of Thangka Painting, Nepal, will be conducting the workshop.

As for the style, thangka is a glorious tradition of painting on textile. Illustrating the themes related to Buddhism, the thangkas are a visual wonder of artistic perfection. A fascinating feature of the painting is its display of colours. Only natural colours and dyes will be used.

An exhibition-cum-sale of the artists' work and other artefacts will be on show during the workshop.

For further details, contact the National Folklore Support Centre, 7, Fifth Cross Street, Rajalakshmi Nagar, Velachery, ph: 22450553/22448589.
