Afloat on a rain bubble

A literal downpour of food options at the ongoing `Bubble in the Rain' food festival


IN THE true spirit of the monsoons, the Taj Residency is celebrating the energy that comes with the rains with its signature festival `Bubble in the Rain'.

Crossing all traditional credence, it is an invitation to savour the downpour with an array of food options that has attempted to satisfy diverse tastes and likings. The entire food festival is set at the Bubble Café, which, with its transparent roofing exudes the semblance of being afloat amidst the rain, creating the most perfect ambience of a `bubble in the rain'.

The festival provides a taste of a variety of cuisines that ranges from continental to Chinese along with an option of a variety of Chaats and a curry wagon that provides traditional delicacies in curry form, made complete with fine white rice. The festival has succeeded in catering to an assortment of tastes and includes a multi cuisine range of items. It offers `food with a difference' which includes the German Rosetis a (potato tikka with a light and easy mushroom and sausage topping or the tangy corn and bean topping, made complete with a good helping of cheese), the Baida Roti which is a unique

Sri Lankan roti with a filling of one choice, neatly folded in pancake form and pan fried as well as a choice of chopsueys, idiyappam, biriyani and dosas.

The uniqueness of the festival may be attributed to the `live cooking' and the various options of fillings, toppings and sauces made available. It provides the customer with a chance to create new flavours as well as experiment with ones culinary skills. The fruit flambé may be voted as the most exciting and flamboyant of all display, where the subtle sharpness in taste is well balanced with an array of sauces, be it caramel or fig and honey!

`Bubble in the rain' undoubtedly is a food festival with a whole lot of difference which has not adapted a particular theme or type of cuisine, instead offers a platter fit for any gourmet.

Executive Chef Mohammed Siddiq points out that they have tried to adopt and incorporate recipes that would cater to all peoples.

"We offer a large variety of food and there is no particular theme as such, while around 95 per cent of the cooking is done live. Besides the continental variety, we also have food that is conventional, along with salad and soup counters. A variety would be provided by replacing certain counters on a

daily basis, Italian for Mexican and so on, in order to create a difference. Basically the festival is a food court of sorts", he explains.

To create a more favourable ambience, `Bubble in the rain' has opted for live entertainment by their in house band `High Roof' on weekends and the twosome team of guitarists, the rest of the week. Tunes are played on request, covering pop to country music that creates a soothing effect of completeness.

On the whole, `Bubble in the rain' is a food festival that has truly sought to remain above the rest this season and so, like they say, roll up your sleeves, walk in the rain and enjoy monsoon the way the world does... all for Rs.300!
