THE FIRST thing that one notices when one enters the newest pub/discotheque in the City today is how women's clothing has gotten skimpier by the day and their body's skinnier by the hour! Thanks to all the "average age 16" women around in these places, any adult above 25 begins to feel that his/her, metabolism has really slowed down, post-teenage.
That's exactly why there are so many health clubs and gyms sprouting in the City. Every area has its own gymnasium, which promise to provide "holistic" approaches to fitness, healing, etc.
But its how many of these gyms and health clubs actually have anything "holistic" to offer? Well, The Zone, a fitness studio, situated in the quite residential part of Koramangala, actually does.
Even its setting a spacious, well-lit bungalow located amidst greenery, with walls painted in beautiful shades of blue and yellow, tells all. Anjali and Sharat Sareen started the "fitness studio" over two years ago. They believe that the exercise area must not be intimidating. The Zone's holistic approach means that each student does not just do one kind of exercise and leave for the day. Instead, it offers a customised plan that includes a variety of exercises to keep the body fit.
These exercises are made to suit every body type, say the couple.
The Zone offers group workouts, which cover a range of activities, including invigorating aerobics routines, more rigorous step workouts, cardio boxing, circuit training, boot camp classes, and new-age yoga classes among others.
What is unique and welcoming about The Zone is that every member receives personal attention and feels comfortable about his/her body, without the trainer breathing down the neck. But the couple is always there to monitor every member's routine for the entire 14 hours in a day that the gym is open.
"We have made sure that the work areas are divided into three levels. The basement is designated for group workouts and has an exuberant ambience with brightly painted walls and abundant space for movement. The first floor is dedicated to strength equipment, and the cardio-vascular equipment is located on the second floor," explains Anjali.
The state-of-the-art equipment at the studio is "bio-mechanically safe and user-friendly", and it is serviced every week and kept totally clean.
This fitness studio also has a cosy little café on the ground floor where members can catch up for a smoothie, juice, or just a chat. It takes more to get fit than just a good workout!
The Zone can be contacted on 5529366.
