Metro cultural round-up

A beautifully structured lecture on `Varsha Rithuvu and the Sumadhura Viraha Kavitha Varshamu of Valmiki' as reflected in Kishkindha kaanda of the Ramayana, was rendered by renowned

litterateur, philomath and critic, Kolavennu Malayavasini, last week.

The occasion was a felicitation function, jointly organised by Sahridaya Saahithi, Kopparapukavula Kalaa Peetham, Spandana and Viswanatha Saahitya Peetham, under the aegis of Saahitya Surabhi, to celebrate the proud event of Prof. Malayavasini being conferred the prestigious award of the AP Adhikaara Bhasha Sangham.

She eloquently explicated how the poetic excellence touched the highest peaks of sublimity on one hand and the harmonicon of humanism deep in the hearts of the discerning readers on the other.

``Even the minutest aspect of every attribute that is manifest in nature at the onset of the rainy season and when it is in full swing radiantly finds soul-stirring expression in the slokas in terms of the soulful concern, in -deciduous love and affection of a true husband for his wife, the pangs of pain he experiences under separation and so on. Thus it appears to be a revelation of the poetic insight and the very soul of the poet getting manifest as Rama, Sita and Lakshmana as the description runs as a narration of his feelings by Rama himself to his brother. The first few showers get evaporated on the heated up earth and the hot vapours emerging out are comparable to the melancholic sighs of Sita. Similarly the ardency of Rama gets poetically revealed in the description how He longs to collect the windy breeze that comes flying over Sita and hence replete with the fragrance in his hands and soulfully drink it if possible. The quiverish like flash of lightning emerging out of the dark clouds appears to Rama to be the shivering Sita as she was being abducted by Ravana.''

Thus, Prof. Malayavasini went ecstatic unfolding the poetic heart embedded in some of the slokas.

'Bhaaeathi Bhushana' Rambhatla Nrisimha Sarma of All India Radio spoke elaborately on her contribution to Telugu literature as a teacher and researcher, occasionally going poetic. Chaganti S. Rao and Vasudeva Rao (Visakha Saahithi), Moturi Sivaramakrishna (Spandana), L.R. Swami (Sahridaya Saahiti), M.Ch. Sarma (Kopparapukavula Peetham), M.Ch. Sarma, and Perala Balamuralikrishna (Viswanatha Saahitya Peetham) spoke.

The surabhi president, Vriddhula Kalyana Rama Rao, presented the welcome address.
