Chinese affair

China Haus brings authentic and popular Chinese cuisine at pocket-friendly prices.

ANYTIME SNACK: The delectable noodle platter.

CHINESE CUISINE has taken the Hyderabadi palate by storm since it entered the biryani capital a few decades ago. The proliferation of Chinese restaurants and inclusion of Chinese fare as a must-have component of any multi-cuisine menu is a witness to that. The connoisseurs in the twin citieshave preferred the Chinese food regionalised (one of the strong points of the Chinese cuisine is that it takes the flavour of the region) especially the Hakka spread. But, of late, the Szechuan, Cantonese, Mandarin and other styles are equally well accepted today.

One such place that offers the popular as well as authentic Chinese cuisine is China Haus. Located in Amrutha Mall, Somajiguda and open between 12.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m., the restaurant is frequented by the college students and shoppers alike. The unassuming restaurant presents a sumptuous platter featuring eggs, vegetables, chicken, fish and prawns as also noodles and rice items . Apart from the vast cuisine line up, the pocket-friendly pricing is the reason for its popularity.

SOFT OR FRIED: An assortment of noodles.

In soups, " the Chicken noodle soup, Manchow soup--a non-spicy soup with minced vegetables and chicken options, a spicy Hot & Sour soup and the popular Sweet corn soup, are well-liked. For starters we have several options in Spring rolls, and you can also try out the Chicken drumsticks and Chicken pakora as starters. Prawn in hot garlic sauce and Chinese fried prawns are popular choices with the patrons. Lemon chicken is a popular fare with children," says Kevin of China Haus. A well-travelled person, he has been to major cities in the world . Having worked with Nanking, Park Lane, Secunderabad, Kevin decided to start on his own with China Haus.

"Special steam rice--an authentic preparation, is a hot favourite with the foreigners as also the rice noodles," he says. Apart from the Hakka style soft noodles, Cantonese gravy style fried noodles and Chopsuey, the place specialises in Mei foon-- Chinese rice noodles which are plain manna.

China Haus also undertakes a 24 hours advance order for whipping up exotic Chinese cuisine such as the Chicken or Vegetable momos— dumplings filled with chicken or vegetable stuffing and Steam chicken— chicken marinated in Chinese spices and steamed with a little oil, one good choice for the health freaks.

DIG IN: Chicken fried rice.

While here you can settle down also for Cheese sandwiches, Aloo tikki, Bhel puri, Kesar pista and Kulfi faluda. This is one of the rare restaurants in the twin cities that offers Chinese cuisine and chaat on the same table. "We undertake catering orders and also offer home delivery within a radius of one km provided the bill amounts to Rs. 200 and above," says Kevin.

So the next time you are in this part of the city, drop in at China Haus, #33, Lower Ground Floor, Amrutha Mall, Tel: 55258628.
